Chinese Coin Sculpture Details Description:
Why are Chinese coins with circular square holes?
Ancient Chinese coins are a highly representative form of currency in the long history of Chinese civilization. The most common type is a circular square hole coin, with the outer part symbolizing “heaven” and the inner part symbolizing “earth”, reflecting the ancient cosmology and order thinking of “heaven is round and earth is square”. Copper coins can be traced back to the Qin and Han dynasties, and have gone through multiple dynasties such as Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing. Although its shape has slightly changed, this unique structure has always been used. It is not only a medium for transactions, but also carries the imprint of the times and cultural information. The characters on the surface of money are often engraved with year names, dynasties, or auspicious words, which have both practical value and artistic beauty. Nowadays, ancient Chinese coins are not only important cultural relics for studying economic and technological history, but also a window for people to understand ancient social culture and aesthetic ideas.
