Why did Apollo chase Daphne?
Apollo chased Daphne because of a mischievous act by the god of love, Eros (Cupid). After Apollo mocked Eros for using a bow and arrow, Eros decided to teach Apollo a lesson. He shoots two arrows: one with gold, which causes Apollo to fall deeply in love with Daphne, a beautiful nymph, and one with lead, which made Daphne repelled by Apollo. Consumed by passion, Apollo relentlessly pursued Daphne, despite her strong desire to remain free and untouched. The chase ended when Daphne, desperate to escape, prayed to her father, the river god Peneus, who transformed her into a laurel tree to protect her from Apollo’s advances. This Greek mythology Apollo chasing Daphne statue captures the dramatic moment of Daphne’s transformation.
