Christus is a Carrara marble statue of the resurrected Jesus designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen in the 19th century. It is located in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Lady of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was commissioned for the church as part of a larger group that included the apostles. It was widely copied, and in the 20th century, leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) adopted images and copies of the statue to emphasize the centrality of Jesus Christ in Church teaching. When the Church of Our Lady of Copenhagen was rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire in September 1807, Torvalson was commissioned to create the statue of Jesus and the apostles and other furniture and decorative elements during the British Naval bombing of Copenhagen. Plaster casts were provided for the dedication of the cathedral, and the finished statue was replaced in 1833. Jesus is depicted with his hands outstretched, showing the wounds in the hands of His resurrected body. Take a look at our Christ Jesus sculpture.
